Ephemeraldion

"There are few places in Vault I had not tread. In the name of research and cataloguing, most places allow me access. This is not one of those places. There are people there, I'm sure of it. But they're not the kind of people to whom one speaks." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things

Description

This place which bears the name of the jungle in which it resides is an ancient site of vast magical power. Those who have ventured into the jungle and survived speak of the arcane resonance the place has but also of the corruption which now lies over it. There are records of a type or temple or monastery once existing there. There are even rumors that the people who once called it home dealt with the creation of marvelous creatures. But that society is long extinct and in its place is an oozing, festering swamp. Its stench can be detected from miles away, and getting anywhere close to it is enough to make the hardiest warrior wretch. No one goes in or out and yet there are signs of life.

Mutated creatures often emerge from the jungle, unnatural fell beasts that make their way toward Serenity Shores. These creatures are dealt with by the security there but the city has never investigated further to understand their origins. Jungle cats crossed with birds of paradise, treetop monkeys plastered against giant tortoises; and each of them oozing with festering boils and slimy excretions.

Something within Ephemeraldion is making these creatures, and whether they are being sent into the world or escaping into it, they may not represent the worst the place has to offer.
