Relic Hunters and the Voice

2398

In the year 2386, the group known as "Bogul's Bruisers" entered Queen's Meet looking for bow belonging to an old war hero, and they changed the course of Vault forever.

Looking back now, it seemed obvious, but no one had ever put the pieces together until them. All over the world it would begin with collapse and end with the petrification of body and mind. What is now known as "The Voice," even as recently as four years ago, was a complete mystery. Which was the entire problem.

After the Bruisers left Queen's Meet, the legends known as Magnus tun Carlson began the Relic Hunter Regiment of Queen's Meet. A group of explorers and warriors intent of following the leads given to them by the Voice. Their objective was simple: find the relics, bring them back, and save lives. But by the time the first of the Relic Hunters returned, it was already too late. No lives were in need of saving.

Across Vault, people began to come back. Crystal cracked, curses reversed, and the endless stasis of the Voice ended. And all it took was the dedication to listen. The dedication exemplified by Bogul's Bruisers and Queen's Meet.

Some of these "Returned" had been sitting in crystal for hundred of years. Some of them longer. And though their lives were no longer held prisoner by the curse, the each still spoke their riddles and rhymes. They each still spoke with the Voice.

With so many new Voices, Magnus's regiment expanded. And as they found their relics, their power grew. With power came prestige. Others answered the call of the Voice, those seeking their own fame and fortune. Word spread quickly. All across Vault teams of Relic Hunters appeared. Those who spoke with the Voice, seemingly chosen at random from any civilization, became as sought as the relics themselves. Each Voice was a clue to more power.

Within the course of four years, Relic Hunters became celebrated heroes. People capable of amazing feats and tremendous power. Magnus tun Carlson fell into the position of coordinator, traversing the world in search of Voices and assigning Relic Hunters to give those afflicted back their own voice.

But seeking the relics was more than just an assignment for those who hunted. It was a calling. A primal urge to heed the Voice. Relic Hunters spoke of the need to find these artifacts of ancient times; to discover that which was hidden. Some sought not the fame and power but rather the fulfillment of what they deemed divine mandate.

Now, in the year 2390, Relic Hunters are kept in check only by other Relic Hunters. Many who would once have called themselves "Adventurers" have turned to hunting in order to keep up with the power. And the Voice does not end. There seems to be no shortage of relics to hunt. And no shortage of those who heed the call...and hear the Voice.
