Star & Scale #34
Far From Home
03/08/2025
As Star and Scale considered their next course in the Rampart, a newcomer entered, Garrick Stoneward, a Paladin who had been at Vyelga when the group had met Seed, and had brought the creature Seed with him after the strange being had escaped the cave.
Seeing Zeb, Eden, and Elowyn again, Seed immediately became excited and happy to be reunited.
The group accepted that Seed should be protected and managed while they figured out what his role in all of this was, so they invited Garrick to some along with them.
Star and Scale set out to the Roads farm outside of Caim's Port. Along the way, they found a wagon secretly selling Skunk Weed, and Seed became obsessed with the wagon's wheels, accidentally destroying one when he got too excited and touched it.
The group paid for the wheel, but the cart driver became spooked when they mentioned heading for Roads farm.
The group arrived and found their old friend Alton Roads and his son Gemma much as they'd left them. Alton informed the group that Grimm had been helping with the Myers reformed business, but he was worried because the troll hadn't visited Gemma in months.
The group headed over to the Myers farm and found they'd been growing illegal Skunk Weed in bulk, using Grimm as security for their practices.
Zeb talked Grimm into leaving the security business with the Myers, and gave him special instructions to meet up with Yofa and travel to Lantern Light to help defend the Geistgate Delphine had created. He gave him a handful of tokens to mark them as the newly established Harrowguard, and instructed him to give one to Rivalynn as well.
Grimm gave the group a basket of produce created from the seeds Gift had left behind.
The Myers family claimed Grimm's departure would end their business and result in their deaths, but the group could not be swayed.
In order to get enough money for a teleport to Trine, Star and Scale checked in with Mythranthar to be paid for their good deeds.
Mythranthar wrote up a contract for them, then immediately sealed it and paid them for it. He also accepted a token of the Harrowguard and said he would meet the group in Venture Ridge in due time.
Before teleporting, however, Star and Scale went to the office of Collectives and Holdings to find a woman Mythranthar said could "weave" spells.Â
Hilda Woodgate, a gnomish mage, was tucked into the back rooms of the offices, and utilized Zeb and Eden's connection to Vad to create a new spell -- one that could locate a dragon anywhere in the world. She gave each of the siblings a copy of the spell scroll for their help.
Elowyn also received a scroll from Hilda which would allow her to open a copy of a book she was interested in in Othrund without damaging or destroying it.
The group left and paid for their teleportation to Trine. They left Trine after renting some Chocobos and made their way to Venture Ridge, Zeb finishing the Harrowguard banner along the way.
They arrived just in time to see Tough As Dirt setting up for an ambush on their old friend Gift.
