Elixir Lowlands

"There is a somber calm that sits over these fields of wildflowers during the day. But night awakens a feast for the eyes; a veritable miracle. I am surprised some horse's arse has yet to ruin it for the rest of us." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things

The Royal Road passes through the Elixir Lowlands, located on the southern portion of Highcroft, but the Cavalcade Lament does so while leaving as little trace of its passing as possible. Such is the beauty and splendor of the lowlands. Most presume the presence of the Fey in the Heart Pool somehow extends to these verdant fields of wildflowers and swaying grass but those inclined to such magics claim the Fey is not at work here. Whatever brings these miles and miles of horizon stretched fields their magic, it is purely natural.

Legends say the people of Highcroft after the Constellation War were under the heel of their draconic tyrants but were themselves capable of amazing feats now lost to time. One of those feats was the mixing of potions, the creation of draughts, and the invention of tinctures. The people of the Elixir Lowlands were experts in using the elements of these endless fields to create magical effects.

After Dragonfall and the Firetide War, the knowledge was lost, those who practiced the art of potion making focused instead on warfare and violence, and all that was left of potion making in the Elixir Lowlands was the name of the place itself. However, the flowers and herbs which made up those elixirs of centuries past still exist. And while their secrets are lost to the ages, they continue to flourish in the wild fields of the lowlands. The people who reside in the lowlands respect their heritage though they no longer understand many of their traditions. There are no villages in the lowlands but single homes spread far apart to give the plants room to spread.

And at night, traveling the Elixir Lowlands is a sight to behold. Many, if not most, of the blooms in the fields spread through a nocturnal event in which iridescent pollen and seeds are carried by the strong winds, creating a sea of swirling colors for as far as they eye can see. It is said this spectacle is what sways the hearts of those who would build cities in this place ripe for living.

But those who live in the Elixir Lowlands have secrets of their own when it comes to keeping their habitat safe from harm.
