Students of Life & Death #23
Bat-People
04/15/2024
The Students of Life and Death entered the tower at Clifftop to find the caretaker, Peg Leg Portis, injured and dying. They healed him, but also found a demigod within as well, a creature known as Neverending.
Neverending was perusing the books, looking through historic accounts of battle that had taken place at Clifftop.
The group ascended to the top of Clifftop to find Saighdeoir, the fortress's keeper, firing arrows at the Ignipotent raiders who had stolen people from Clifftop and taken them into the jungle towards Sinner's Peak.
Upon learning there was a demigod in his tower, Saighdeoir went below after thanking the Students for their help in repelling the raiders
Below, Neverending asked Saighdeoir about the resting spot of its "companion," a fellow avatar of Bane, who had apparently fallen at that location in a battle against Omnia Krease many years prior
Saighdeoir and Portis claimed they had no knowledge of that battle or the resting spot of the creature
Saighdeoir did claim that any body in Clifftop would have been taken to Sinner's Peak to be sacrificed. Neverending disappeared, assumedly to seek out the body at Sinner's Peak.
Unable to leave Clifftop due to his duties, Saighdeoir asked the group to go to Sinner's Peak to save his people, stop Neverending, and also finish their task of birthing a Barrow Hawk for Roach.
Pain Itself, upon seeing Val's mechanical construction of Sprocket, decided to divulge the information that he believed the Tower that Sees the Sunrise was actually a weapon, and it needed to be fixed, and he believed Val was the one to do it. He gave her a Sending Stone so they could keep in touch whenever he found out how to fix the tower in his homeland
With that, the two Tabaxi brothers left to seek out more answers, and promised to keep Val apprised.
The group was able to capture some large insects from the jungle to draw giant bats ridden by the now dead Ignipotents
Upon riding the bats towards the distant volcano, Saighdeoir gave them a proper sendoff with his thanks, and the hope his people would not be sacrificed to the flames within.
