Mythrisyl Forest

"Of the seven great forests of Vault, the Mythrisyl is the only one elves haven't had a hand in curating in one way or another. Now, we can argue day and night about whether there are six or seven great forests on account of the jungles of the Arrowheads being considered a forest. Some say it's a jungle. I say, what's the difference? People say the trees. I say a tree is a tree. But the elves don't live in the Arrowhead FORESTS I suppose, so my original assertion is flawed regardless." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things

It is said the Mythrisyl Forest was created during the dawn of the world. Beloved of the gods and home to their most exquisite creations, the forest was a dense landscape where no axe could cut and no fire could burn. To this day, there are pockets of the Mythrisyl where such a magic holds true. It was this magic that protected the people of Highcroft from their draconic enemies time and time again over the years. And it is not just the trees who came to their aid; the creatures who inhabit the Mythrisyl found common cause with the people of Highcroft, especially the Pegasi, the most prominent of the forest's denizens.

And while the forest is largely able to be felled and burned, traversing it is a hardship only the most experienced of rangers will undergo. The trees grow close to one another, the underbrush is thick, and the branches that make up the canopy are wide.

Because of this, there are areas in the Mythrisyl that are wholly unexplored, even after thousands of years. The Pegasi, while many have migrated to Dragon Watch and Caim, hold that the forest is not meant for the people of Vault, but instead remains a haven for the creatures of the gods. As such, they, and others within the forest, are displeased with the passage granted to the people of Arachun.

Such access has been granted to few people in extreme circumstances through the years. One such occurrence was when the forest sheltered those who had stolen the clutch of Lithenlight, an elder dragon. When Lithenlight attacked the forest, it caused harm the extent of which even the people of Highcroft to this day do not know. But it caused the Pegasi to emerge from the forest and throw in their lot with Highcroft against the dragons, a mighty turn in the fortunes of its people that continues on in legacy.

Besides the Pegasi and Arachnids of the forest, most creatures of the wood attempt to remain unseen, nary venturing to the edges of the forest where people may see them. However, those who brave the Mythrisyl through skill and cunning report creatures the likes of which exist nowhere else on Vault, including what they call the "Myth Numens," large creatures resembling divinities themselves with untold power.
