Noxious Falls
"I drank from the falls, in the name of science, and I can attest, from my week spent bed-ridden vomiting endlessly, that the falls are indeed noxious. You don't have to take my word for it, but know that many are not so lucky as I." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things
In the south of Core Vandal is a waterfall that has baffled the locals for generations. Known as Noxious Falls, its waters are poison to drink, its air and mist sickening to breathe, and its stench unsettling at best. The lore surrounding the falls spans from a natural phenomenon of gross algae to malicious spirits inhabiting its waters.
The facts are somewhere in between. It is generally acknowledged that some entity or entities inhabit the falls due to the strange music that can be heard in the night. The people near the falls call them Toxicans due to their supposed love of the water.
While no one has ever really seen a Toxican, there are some that say they can be helpful if they want to be. The Toxicans have even gone so far as to perform miraculous healing for those in trouble, though no one remembers what they look like after such events take place.
The falls empty out into the Kindred Sea and the poisonous nature disperses by the time it gets there, and the River Pryce flowing into the falls is not dangerous. Something within the falls themselves creates the aberration, but whatever it is, it does a wonderful job of staying undiscovered.
