Serenity Shores
"I could only afford to visit Serenity Shores once, even when I explained to the management it was for research purposes. And while the relaxation and comfort I encountered there was worth the cost of admission, I can't help but feel a bit of shame at the indulgence." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things
City Description
Population: ~600
Founded: 2320 (70 years ago)
A resort city created for the decadent and wealthy, Serenity Shores caters to visitors, tourists, and citizens alike. Situated on the southern most part of the Arrowhead Isles, the tropical getaway is easily accessed by the wealthy noble people of the mainland, most of whom maintain an empty villa or two within the city limits. Sandy beaches, delicious cuisine, and luxurious domiciles are just a few of the more mundane draws the city boasts. Clerics learned in the de-aging arts, exotic planar zoos, and the best entertainment sorcery can muster also add to the luxury at Serenity Shores.
While the rich and opulent makes their stays here, the question of piracy is always foremost on people's minds. And while the crossing of the Gossamer Sea holds no certainties, the owners and manager of Serenity Shores have a standing deal with the pirates of the Arrowhead Isles for protection. No acts of piracy from the three major cities takes place in Serenity Shores, and the pirates are presumably kept on a payroll.
However, such accords cannot be made with the beasts of the Ephemereldion. Thus was "The Stand" created. A vast plain of former jungle, chopped down and cleared out in order to create a killzone for anything leaving the jungle. Serenity Shores employs numerous sorcerers to maintain a barrier between the resort city and the treeline, and anything that passes through is met with the magical ferocity of highly skilled mages. After years of lessons, the beasts have learned to keep their distance, so there are now few intrusions. But every once in a while, the citizens are audience to a brilliant light show; a show few of them realize is the utter destruction of an interloper.
Due to the nature of its denizens, Serenity Shores often acts as a display case for the ultra-wealthy. Rubbing elbows with other elites often leads to the need to show off, making for some of the most costly and impressive shows of wealth. Those who visit Serenity Shores without citizenship are spared no luxury, but also don't have the kind of access those who live there have. Still, visiting Serenity Shores is seen as prestigious and leads to a rise in social status without fail.
The security in the city is some of the best in the world, as can be expected. Promising young officers, proven battle-hardened soldiers, and top-of-the-class mages are recruited from all over Vault, making Serenity Shores a decent military force if their soldiers were not solely suited to safeguarding the rich and famous.
City Landmarks
Angelina's Waterworks Emporium: the warm climate and sunny days make for excellent swimming weather year round in Serenity Shores, and catering to that is Angelina's. Pools of crystal clear waters, towering slides, glistening waterfalls, and every imaginable way to relax within the water can be found in the Emporium. The Farseer Academy for the Gifted: the only school for the children of Serenity Shore, it is still incredibly difficult to earn admission. Catering to children from early ages of development all the way to adulthood, there are few better educations one can receive in all of Vault. The graduates of Farseer often go on to become powerful individuals in the world of Vault's politics.
The Stand: the empty plains outside of Serenity Shores, the Stand is pocked with craters of magical explosions and scorched with the ashes of fires. Once a month, a group of security from the city go out and rid the Stand of any refuse, and it is said that sometime there are things living in the plains that have gone unnoticed, awaiting their chance to feed.
Gods' Call Game House: if one is looking for high stakes gaming, there is no higher stakes in all of Arrowhead Isles than Gods' Call. While gambling is a basic part of pirate culture, simply entering into Gods' Call takes an incredible sum of money. Once within, games of chance, games of skill, and games no one wishes to speak of can be found. Gods' Call never closes its doors but only allows entry to those they know are good for the undertaking ahead.
Viera and Associates Spa and Wellness Center: in a city of luxury, Viera's is known for pampering done right. A vast and sprawling complex of saunas, massage parlors, stretch racks, salons, barbers, skin specialists, and those trained in the sensual arts await patrons. There are no poor views from any room, and each lavish suite is equipped with anything a person needs, including catered meals brought to rooms on a whim.
Pebble Dunes Stay: the art of sand sculpting is used for more than just beach play. Pebble Dunes are rooms for rent for visitors build directly into the dunes outside the city. One can awake, walk out their door, and directly into the waiting temperate waters of the Farewave ocean.
Grand Course Shuttle Range: the game of Shuttle may have been popularized in other parts of the world but Serenity Shores makes a lifestyle of it. Massive courses of beautiful green hills are scattered around outside the city walls, and even a couple exclusive courses within. The de facto pastime of the wealthy, if one does not know how to play Shuttle, they are assumed no true citizen of Serenity Shores.
Wagoo's Cuisine: the Goblin Wagoo is the cutting edge of fine cuisine, and his flagship restaurant is located within the city. He often travels to this location to personally prepare meals for some of his favorite patrons, but even when he's not present, his constant exploration for new foods and ways in which to prepare them creates for an unforgettable experience. The waitlist for Wagoo's is often months long.
The Daily Fed: this restaurant boasts the food local to the Arrowhead Isles, claiming their exclusive menu of jungle cuisine makes for the freshest experience one can have in Serenity Shores.
Destination Aquatic: run by the Triton Versai who personally catches each seafood dish prepared daily, this restaurant has the most creative seafood dishes in Vault. This is mostly due to Versai's ability to delve the depths of the ocean to find sealife no one has ever seen, much less attempted to eat.
