Sinner's Peak

"I simply cannot fault anyone for wishing to satiate a personification of death and destruction like a volcano. I daresay its eruption would decimate the Arrowhead Isles. And while ritualistic sacrifice is likely not the solution, one cannot blame others for trying." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things

Description

The lone active volcano on the Arrowhead Isles is Sinner's Peak. Its fellows are likely the cause of the isles in the first place, but Sinner's Peak is the only towering mountain still sending forth smoke like black bile into the sky on a regular basis.

Down its western slopes is a steady flow of lava down into the western bank of the isle, dripping into the Farewave Ocean. And while there is no written record of an eruption, it's likely fair to say the forces at work during the Constellation War may have seen the volcano's most recent outburst.

But it isn't just the threat of an active volcano that makes Sinner's Peak dangerous. There is also the issue of how it received its name.

Living on its mountainous slopes are a group of people known as the "Ignipotents" who have little regard for anything which they do not deem serves the volcano. They stalk the jungles of the island, stealing away travelers, hunters, and sometimes even raiding cities like Topside in order to gain people they can throw into the volcano. They fully believe that a spirit of fire lives within the caldera, and its hunger for souls is what causes the volcano to erupt. The Ingipotents have spent centuries calculating the necessary souls to ensure the spirit of the volcano is satisfied, while keeping the sacrifices to a minimum. They see themselves as a necessary evil to keep a greater evil at bay. They recognize they are the Sinners, but that burden is their to bear.
