Tough As Dirt #24

• Safe beneath the streets of Othrund, in the secret passages connecting the Library to the Parliament building, Tough as Dirt questioned the newly freed Cobalt as to why Parliament wanted him

  • Cobalt explained they didn't want him, but rather the books the group had taken on draconic entities and necromancy. 

  • The other individual they'd saved from the Parliament's torture pillars they soon discovered, through some mind reading, was the head chef of the palace, and was being questioned on the palace's defenses.

• The group got Cobalt back to sorts in the Library but not before asking him about books on "Vast the Immeasurable," which prompted Cobalt to take the group to the seventh floor, the first chamber ever built in the Library.

  • There Gideon discovered one of the only books that didn't simply fall apart upon being touched was a legendary fiction about two twins, Damien and Dimitri Lotus, a book that had a setting not of Vault.

  • Eventually, they found the book that contained information on Vast, but simply picking it up with cause it to fall apart. The group agreed to return when they discovered a way to get the information from within the book without destroying it in the process.

• Brother Moore also checked some star charts before leaving the library and discovered the next eclipse would take place in two months, and happened every couple of years.

  • While checking the astronomy charts, he also discovered notes on a light in the sky that said it was "getting close" and then a more recent note that said, "it has arrived." 

• Outside the Library, Varsmack was mistaken for someone in the Temple of Thrax, as a man with a bandolier of daggers told him to "return to the Temple for the sacrifice." Varsmak agreed to do just that, which set the man's mind at ease.

• The group made their way back to the Gateway Clipper only to discover Yella, Babbit, and Lillium were all missing and a message written in blood said, "bring us the books."

  • The group left the chef on the ship

• Tough as Dirt decided to go hard in the face of this transgression, and scouted the Parliamant building from the air, but was unable to find the location of their missing comrades. They decided to head to the Temple of Thrax, as one of the secret tunnels beneath the Library and Parliament building lead there.
