Highcroft
Highcroft is a kingdom built on the foundation of inclusion, discipline, and order. With one of the largest militaries in the world filled with elite fighting forces, Highcroft could easily wage war on other nations to expand its reach. However, its seen its fair share of wars in the past.
Hundreds of years ago, Highcroft was a land ruled by tyrannical dragons. Knights quested for their blood, adventurers raided their hordes, and the people attempted to survive by paying tribute. It wasn't until a woman united the communities of Highcroft that the people rose up and banished the dragons from the country, suffering greatly in what would be known as Dragonfall.
The years after were spent rebuilding in peace. The great city of Caim was founded. The population grew. Highcroft prospered and became a nation of wealth and quality.
And then the dragons returned. The Firetide War was fought over six bloody years between Highcroft and the nation of Vad to the east. Aerial battles of fire and magic pitted the dragons of Vad, yearning to reclaim their ancestral home, and the Pegasi of Highcroft, protectors of the peace and harmony the nation had found.
In the end, Highcroft proved victorious by outlasting the resources of Vad. The dragon riders of the eastern nation convinced their dragon allies to abandon their ancestral home before they lost the one they had made for themselves. While the Firetide War ended, the tension between the two nations has never lessened, and it's assumed by all that the next war is not a matter of if, just a matter of when.
To that end, Highcroft's monarchy has instituted strict policies concerning the citizenry. Papers of Populace are required for all citizens and visitors to the country under penalty of fines and imprisonment. The military might established in the Firetide War has never abated, making Highcroft an incredibly powerful presence in Vault.
Due to that, or perhaps in spite of it, Highcroft has once again found peace and prosperity. For now.
