Mariner's Point

"I'm not much for the simple life. I adore indulgence. The people of Mariner's Point are quite the opposite. They have pushed against growth for their entire existence. They take pleasure in the quiet things. I sometimes wonder if any one of them has ever screamed in their lives." - from the memoirs of Lewin Von Treet, Vault: the Land of Stuff and Things

City Description

Population: ~500

Founded: 1290 (1,100 years ago)

Mariner's Point has existed since time before Dragonfall in Highcroft. It has lasted through so many centuries due to the philosophy of its people: Ignore the world and the world will ignore you. Such a feat has not been easy for the people of this port town on the Gossamer Sea. Due to its location, it would have grown into a thriving port to rival Trine long ago but its people, through sheer force of will, refused to allow for its expansion. With one resolve, they fought to keep their traditional way of life. Quiet, simple, and calm.

The people of Mariner's Point are primarily fishers. They know the waters of the Gossamer Sea like few others and their hauls are sold throughout Highcroft. Even Caim, which has its own port town, considers the fish caught at Mariner's Point to be a traditional dish.

A day in the life of this small town is spent repairing nets, attaching lines, and rigging sails. People from all walks of life come through the town on a regular basis, but in order to stay, one must adapt to the Mariner's Point life. They suffer no one to stay who wishes to rock the boat.

While it is a very small town with a small community, they welcome anyone to pass through on their way to the rest of Highcroft. That makes Mariner's Point a destination for travelers from around the Gossamer Sea. Just don't get comfortable once you arrive.

City Landmarks

The Docks - where the ships are tied up each evening and where they depart from each morning. Small boats mostly with a larger dock for ships coming in from Trine or Cypress

The Market Stalls - where the things the people need are sold. Mostly fish and sea creature for eating. Prices are marked up for foreigners.

The Stables - where the horses are kept. Rather large stable as there's plenty of money to be made sending foreigners on their way

The Farms - where the crops are grown. The Elixir Lowlands have to be taken advantage of, even for a fishing community.

The Elder's House - where the village elder lives. They settle disputes and tell foreigners when it's time to leave
