Students of Life & Death #33
Lending a Hand
02/05/2025
The Students of Life and Death disussed the riddles given to them by Magnus in Queen's Meet while Otho attempted to figure out what was going on with Bunny Vampire.
Doba the dockmaster welcomed the group and gave them the rundown of what Heron's Harbor was all about, including the location of the person with the Voice.
The group decided to visit Lyla, the deerkin woman who lived in Heron's Harbor with the Voice.
Upon arriving, the Students listened to the riddle again but also saw that Lyla was living in a state of squalor and had no one to help her.
Lyla's sister lived next door, so the group confronted her about why she wasn't helping Lyla while the Voice was making things difficult for her, and the sister claimed Lyla was cursed by the gods, and she wanted no part in her sister's misery.
The group dedicated themselves to helping Lyla, and discovered a previous Relic Hunting party had come through, but they were not seen again after hearing the riddle from Lyla.
Outside Lyla's house, the group encountered Traxxus, brother to the former King of the Kindred Isles, and one of the contenders to take his place.
Traxxus caught sight of the twisted, monstrous hand on Otho's back, which he'd recovered from the rot infested village of Tomolin, and demanded ownership of the hand.
When Otho refused, Traxxus threatened violence. The stuffed bunny in Otho's jacket chose that moment to come to life, obviously posessed by something, and fought against Traxxus's threats.
Bunny Vampire soon revealed itself to be Neverending after Traxxus tore it in two, who had hitched a ride to the Kindred Isle with the group as they passed by Calvara Island in the Arrowheads.
Neverending took the hand from Otho and sent it flying off in an easterly direction.
The demigod then infused Traxxus with rot, coalesced from the surroundings, causing the bearkin to become subserviant to Neverending.
Neverending expressed his thanks once again to the group for their help, promising them favors in the future. He took Traxxus and left, telling the group he'd see them again when they came to Torn's Rest.
The group watched him leave, and then heard the call of the giant heron in the harbor as the rot began to spread up the lighthouse to where it made its nest.
