Bridga's Brigade #2
Below the Bastille
03/22/2023
Rugger, Nyx, Julien, Billy, and Bridga spent a over a week in the newly functioning and organized bastille before being corralled into a room by Maxine Hemlock
She gave them a dagger which they used to break out of the room and met her outside, where she charged the group with finding Garn, the big dwarf they'd met at the bottom level of the bastille a week prior. She claimed he'd been missing ever since and she needed him. Since they "knew" where he went, she gave the group their equipment and told them to find him, and tell him "Maxine can't do this without you."
The group descended to where they last saw Garn, the God of Grudges, and stared at the placid waters before them. They decided to take the plunge and dove into the waters
They left Bridga above, understanding where they were going, it could be dangerous
The waters pulled them down and deposited them midair, where they fell into an underground lake, staring up at the flat, aquatic ceiling above them
They swam to shore and found a Ferryman ready to take them to an underground lighthouse in the cavernous subterranean lake, and he claimed he only charged a "conversation"
The Ferryman asked why they'd brought so few, but didn't elaborate further
During the trip, the Ferryman asked each member of Bridga's Brigade "who is proud of you?" The group had various answers, from delusions, to no one, to answers like "myself." The Ferryman made no distinction as to whether these answers were satisfying
Billy managed to cast a command on the Ferryman to answer a question about who made him, to which his answer was "Negri."
The Ferryman deposited them on the rocky shores of the Lighthouse and skimmed away, and the group saw two monumental figures seemingly standing guard: an angel and a demon, both massive in stature
The two figures paid them little heed and said nothing
The group saw Garn at the entrance of the Lighthouse. He said, "Tell Maxine it's on her now. I'm not coming back." and entered the Lighthouse
When the group tried to follow, they were set upon by bat-like beasts, and the angel and demon turned their backs on the group during the fight
After Bridga's Brigade proved victorious, the two figures turned back to them but still said nothing
The group decided to follow after Garn, entering the Lighthouse to the chill of cutting winter winds and the bright light off reflected snow. They saw seven spires around them before the door closed.
