Star & Scale #21
Take a Little Listen
12/02/2023
Star and Scale met at the Sharptongue Tavern to go over their plan for retrieving the book containing the weapon cache locations from the Grand Library of Emeral
Their friend Daedalin setup a contact inside the library named Lanee who would hand over a key to the restricted section
The group entered the library through the sewers to find Modrons patrolling the building, some of which seemed to be corroded with a green ionization that bubbled around open wounds
Their contact, Lanee, was found unconscious and the key missing
Battling through Modrons and a book tornado, in which they found a book called "The Curse of Krease," Star and Scale eventually found two sisters who were cagey about the reason they'd broken into the library, Jocasta and Tamara Seuthe
Markus said "The cloud are looking mighty heavy..." to the sisters, and they immediately calmed, responding "... I daresay it looks like rain." The phrase was a passcode for the members of the Western Highcroft Rebellion, a group that apparently never completely went away after the establishment of Sophivitaas
The Seuthes had the key from Lanee, and when Star and Scale discarded the Curse of Krease book, Jocasta attempted to secretly pick it up and hide it on her person
Tamara seemed exhausted or injured, but she didnt volunteer any info on the matter
With the Seuthes in tow, Star and Scale found the records section and opened it with the key. Gift immediately found the book within the stacks, and Zeb hid the weapon cache information inside the conch shell he bought, blessed by Tsh'Ah.
Star and Scale hid the fact they found the book from Jocasta and Tamara, and then tried to leave them in the records room, since the Seuthes wanted the weapons to help wage war on Caim's representation in Sophivitas, a city they believed should belong to its citizens and not Highcroft
The group escaped and went to the history section of the library to find a being known as Neverending, a demigod of Bane, looking for information on the final resting spot of his master
The group saw Neverending turn Modrons against each other through that bubbling green disease
They learned he needed a book called the Curse of Krease, and realized the Seuthe sisters had it
The group went back to find the sisters, and found Jocasta dragging her dying sister from the library
It turned out Tamara had been infected with the bubbling disease, and Hannah healed it, earning the group their trust
Jocasta explained the book had the history of the Krease family, the most recent of whom was a woman named Omnia
Apparently Omnia could not die from aging, and she had killed the other avatar of Bane, a being known as Abominate.Â
The book also contained the final resting place of the multiverse god, Bane
The group went back to Neverending to hand over an illusory copy of the book with the information of Bane removed, which earned them a blessing from Bane and the gratitude of Neverending, who now knew where Abominate's body could be found
Neverending left, and the group escaped the Library
